Getting the Right Orthotics Begins with the Right Evaluation
When it comes to orthotics, one size does not fit all. Generic “arch supports” often fail to address the bigger picture—how your feet, legs, and entire body work together during movement. That’s why my approach is different.
The key to effective orthotics lies in the evaluation process. A properly designed orthotic begins with a comprehensive assessment of how your feet function—not just while standing, but also during movement. This detailed evaluation ensures that the orthotics I create are tailored to your unique biomechanics.
A Comprehensive Evaluation: Beyond Basic Foot Scans
Many orthotics are prescribed based on quick impressions, simple molds, or pressure scans. While these methods provide some insight, they don’t capture the full complexity of your movement patterns. My evaluation process goes deeper and includes:
- Joint Range of Motion Testing – I assess how your foot and ankle move both off-weight-bearing (sitting or lying down) and weight-bearing (standing and walking). This identifies restrictions, imbalances, or excess motion that need correction.
- Slow-Motion Video Gait Analysis – Real-time observation isn’t enough. High-speed video analysis reveals subtle biomechanical issues in your feet, ankles, and legs that may contribute to discomfort or inefficient movement.
- Weight Distribution & Symmetry Evaluation – Feet often function differently from one another. Like vision differences between your eyes, each foot may require unique support or correction. I evaluate whether adjustments are needed for each foot individually.
- Footwear Assessment – Your shoes significantly impact how your feet function. I examine wear patterns, stability issues, and whether your footwear contributes to pain or misalignment.
Why This Matters: Customization is Key
Every individual has unique gait patterns, foot structures, and biomechanics. My approach focuses on designing orthotics that correct imbalances, enhance function, and provide long-term relief—not just offering generic arch supports.
Without this level of detailed assessment, orthotics may fail to address the root cause of discomfort—or worse, create new problems. That’s why I dedicate time to ensure every patient receives a solution tailored to their specific needs.
How Long Should a Proper Evaluation For Orthotics Take?
As long as it takes to get it right. I spend up to an hour or more thoroughly assessing your biomechanics to ensure the orthotics I design will deliver lasting comfort and functionality.
If you’ve tried orthotics before without success or are seeking a second opinion, I’m here to help. Many patients come to me after being disappointed by “quick-fix” solutions that weren’t customized for their needs.
Your feet deserve expert attention—let’s find the right solution for you.
